Sandra: The pandemic destabilized us.
Aline: The first day of lockdown, I was alone in Nantes. My roommate moved his girlfriend in. I had to tell myself I was a strong woman.
Sandra: The first day of lockdown, I tried to buy a flight to Italy but the borders were closed. I focused on the positive. Things would reopen by Easter.
Aline: My roommates were not talking to me. I needed to speak with someone. Face to face. Physical. Close. Then, I discovered my neighbors for the first time. We built a garden. We organized a barbecue. I built a new home.
Sandra: My roommates were not talking to me. Zoom became a window into my old home. The borders were still closed. I slept a lot.
Aline: I moved to Paris but I visit my new family in Nantes. We’re excited to reconnect. This social connection is my victory over Covid. I no longer felt alone. I was comforted and grateful.
Sandra: I made it to Italy. And, after two and half years, returned to the home I kept mistakenly leaving. My mother and my siblings were waiting. I was always supposed to be there.
Aline: Home is comfort.
Sandra: Home is lighter.
Aline: Home is the social link.
Sandra: Home is appreciating the moment.
